Future Plans and Delayed Actions
The National Population Register (NPR) update and the house listing phase of the census were initially planned to take place from April 1 to September 30, 2020. However, these plans had to be delayed because of the COVID-19 epidemic. The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner told all states in a letter that the deadline for freezing administrative boundaries has been extended until June 30th, according to the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner.
According to regulations, the census cannot be carried out before three months have passed after the boundaries of administrative entities including districts, sub-districts, tehsils, talukas, and police stations were frozen. As of July 1, 2023, the boundaries of these units for the forthcoming census will be fixed. Covering any jurisdictional changes that have taken place between the two most recent censuses is part of this process.
The relevant Directorate of Census Operations in the state or Union Territory has been requested that the state governments finalise any changes to administrative borders by June 30, 2023, and transmit copies of notices on jurisdictional changes to that directorate.
